This book is suitable for QS and estimators who know what quantities they need, in accordance with the rules of a standard method of measurement — in our case, ANZSMM — and this book will explain based on this SMM. It then explains where and how to obtain those quantities.
The measurement fundamentals have not changed. You are advised to refer to your measurement textbook for terminology used in measurement, such as dimension sheet, billing, etc., as they are all relevant to 5D BIM Cost Management. The same applies to units of measurement: Volume (m³), Area (m²), Linear (m), Count (no.), and Mass (kg/ton).
Here we adopt a QS approach to 5D BIM Cost Management, meaning we follow the usual QS workflow in practice, rather than a programmer-type workflow involving formulas and the like.
As you extract the quantities, always follow the construction sequence — a good measurement practice to minimize missing items, i.e. imagine that you are constructing the building from the bottom up.
